BT moves into online broadcasting |

BT Openworld is the mass market Internet access division of British Telecommunications plc. Its narrowband consumer product is BT Openworld, the premium service is BT Openworld Anytime, which for a fixed monthly fee of £14.99 provides 24/7 unmetered Internet access. The broadband product gives you high speed access to the internet up to 40 times faster than your regular dial-up connection.
The new sports channel, called Sportal OnDemand, will cost £4.99 per month and will provide subscribers with access to a wide range of 'as live' action, highlights, previews and interviews as well as archive and magazine material. BT Openworld, has announced pricing for its satellite broadband internet service for small businesses in remote areas of the British Isles. |

Single connections will be charged £69.99 a month, plus a one-off installation charge of £899. This service is initially available in the Scottish Highlands, and Northern Ireland although separate package will be available for multiple users. Business Satellite 500/4 allows four PCs to be connected for £139.99 a month with a £1,299 installation fee. Development agency Highlands and Islands Enterprise says it will invest up to £250,000 to assist local companies in meeting the one off cost of installation. Director of Growing Businesses, Douglas McDiarmid, says the offer will help ensure local businesses are as ready as any others to embrace new electronic working practices. Satellite broadband will offer always-on internet connections at speeds approximately ten times faster than attainable with conventional modems. BT has struck a deal with broadband sports specialists Sportev and independent sports production house The Television Corporation, which produces Channel 4 cricket, to provide programming for the new venture. Sportal OnDemand will initially feature six channels including a rolling news show called This Week in Sport, Football Plus which will air highlights and interviews from the UK, Italian, Brazilian and Argentine football leagues and a boxing channel called Fight Club. They will feature a range of three-minute highlight packages, mixed with longer in-depth features and full coverage of matches 'as live'. |
