A frightening amount of companies are pulling out of British manufacturing, however, Andrew Bishop of Carlsbro Electronics Ltd, which specialises in music amplification ( guitar amps )and speaker systems, has commited his famous music ' amp and speakers ' business to remaining a local company, yet supplying worldwide.

Carlsbro amplifiers and speakers in this instance can be compared with many top British classics like Rolls Royce, Triumph, Norton, and Sir Winston Churchill - among others. Although only Carlsbro still survives today in the format for which it became famous. We are talking about thoroughbred distinctive British sounds, Rolls Royce enthusiasts can distinguish the famous whisper, whilst most adults will identify Sir Winston Churchill's tones. Carlsbro manufacture unique amplifier and related products that produce a completely 'British' sound, recognised all over the World. Every successful musician has played on a Carlsbro amplifier, including bands and superstars such as The Beatles, Mick Jagger, Oasis and many more. Carlsbro guitar amps are British made as opposed to counterparts such as Fender, Marshall, Hughes & Kettner, Hoffman, Koch and Vox.

Carlsboro guitar amps are still going strong!

The Carlsbro Nu Tone is the only guitar stack to be designed especially for de-music (de-tuned, de-mented, de-ranged etc.).

When Carlsbro was founded four decades ago, live music was really ' live' and Britain had very few radio stations. It isn't too difficult to imagine how strong a music industry related company would need to be to survive the rapid growth of pre-recorded music in its many formats. Carlsbro did just that, but it was not without struggle.

In 2001, just after Carlsbro's 40th birthday, Andrew Bishop bought the company, Carlsbro was on the verge of collapse, but Andrew Bishop knew the pedigree of Carlsbro only too well. Carlsbro amplifiers and speakers are still being used throughout the world and it is a brand that superstars still demand. There was, and still is, a certain chemistry with Andrew Bishop, and the Carlsbro team at Nottingham, England.

This synergy was proven twelve months later, Carlsbro amplifier sales are up by over 30%, the order book is rapidly growing and the workforce is steadily increasing in numbers.Andrew Bishop explained;

"It is important that we invest in our local businesses and workers. When I first came to look round Carlsbro, I was hit by the hardworking determination and craftsmanship of the workforce, many of whom had been with the company for over 20 years.

"Carlsbro has always been very strong on the production side, but it was crying out for a focused sales and marketing drive to take it forward.

"We manufacture a unique product that produces a completely 'British' sound, recognised all over the World," adds Andrew. "Every musician has played on a Carlsbro, including bands and superstars such as The Beatles, Mick Jagger, and Oasis. "

Carlsbro Electronics Ltd, which was started by a miners son 42 years ago, is the last remaining British manufacturer designing and building all of its amplifiers and speakers, for musicians and singers world-wide. Over the last few months, Andrew has travelled around the country introducing himself to dealers to develop a more customer-led approach. He continued;

"By working closely with dealers around the country, we can identify exactly what the customers want and can continue to develop new creative and imaginative high-quality products.

"Traditionally Carlsbro has had a reputation as the amp for the 'working mans club', but we are working to change this perception by introducing the latest technology, supported by an aggressive sales and marketing campaign.

The response from the dealers has been very positive, and the orders are starting to grow,"

With the help of Business Link Nottinghamshire, Carlsbro is continually looking to expand its presence overseas.

Andrew says: "Over 40% of the products made here in Mansfield are sold in over 26 countries worldwide, and we are currently taking our brand further afield by increasing the number of distributors around the world.

Carlsbro actively supports and promotes live music - take a look at www.carlsbro.co.uk for further information about what is happening near you.
