POGO

UK's first colour handheld mobile internet device with mobile phone, PDA, MP3, email and full web browser on sale now exclusively at The Carphone Warehouse

London, 4th February 2002 - Pogo, the UK's first hand-held mobile internet device, officially goes on sale in the UK high street today via an exclusive distribution deal with Europe's largest independent mobile communications retailer, The Carphone Warehouse.

The greatly anticipated Pogo device offers full colour web access at PC speed, combined with email, MP3 and mobile phone on a futuristic handheld device. The Pogo is initially available exclusively at 20 selected Carphone Warehouse's stores, priced £299 (with a one-off connection charge of £30 to the 'Fresh' tariff*), as well as from carphonewarehouse.com. From March 1st it will be rolled out across Carphone Warehouse stores nationwide.

The Pogo was designed and developed by British company, Pogo Technology (www.pogo-tech.com) and its distinct design has been described by the British Design Council as "a compelling product solution that will appeal to discerning buyers, who value the contribution of design in this new era of consumer electronics. Pogo has succeeded in arousing keen interest and encouraging a desire for ownership."

The Pogo device is also in the running for a prestigious GSM Association Award** to be announced at the 3GSM World Congress this month. The Pogo has been selected as one of only three finalists in the new and hotly anticipated 'Best Wireless Handset/Terminal or Handheld Device' category. Other finalists are NTT DoCoMo's FOMA device and the Handspring Treo Communicator. The Pogo was selected by a panel of industry experts for its new thinking in design, as well as its innovative new features, performance, price, ergonomics, user-friendly interfaces and display quality.

The Pogo device sets itself apart from business oriented rival products as an easy to use lifestyle accessory for young urban style-leaders. Pogo aims to equip the new mobile generation with affordable, complete web services on the move, without the wait for 3G.

Pogo's data compression technology squeezes web pages into one fifth of the original size, so information reaches the device at speed for quicker downloads. This enables the GSM mobile device to deliver full colour web pages at similar speeds as a standard 56K home modem connection. The Pogo features standard PDA functions, such as diary and address book, where personal information is stored centrally and updated every time the device is switched on. This synchronises the device without wires connecting to a PC and if the device is lost or stolen, stored numbers, appointments and other information is retrievable.

Charles Dunstone, Chairman and Chief Executive of The Carphone Warehouse commented: "Customers have been crying out for this kind if product and we're very pleased to now be able to offer it. Pogo's technology pushes the boundaries of mobile capability and provides an effective mobile Internet experience in a very stylish package."

Pogo co-founder, Tim Critchley added: "We are very pleased to have secured Europe's largest and most recognised chain of mobile communication stores for a retail partner. It is a strong endorsement of the Pogo proposition that The Carphone Warehouse is championing the Pogo device on the high street. We are aiming to give consumers access to a range of mobile Internet services today that will not be widely available until 3G. We are confident that people don't want to wait for 3G and that the Pogo's appeal will satisfy this demand."

The Carphone Warehouse Group PLC was founded in 1989 and has experienced rapid growth in the 1990s under the leadership of Charles Dunstone and David Ross.
