British small businesses gathered in Blackpool for the UK's Federation of Small Business's annual conference. The Conference took from 19th to 21st March 2004 against the backdrop of UK budget.

Delegates heared addresses by speakers from the main political parties and from other high profile speakers.

Leading the party of politicians was Patricia Hewitt MP, the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry. Her shadow DTI spokesman for the Conservatives, Stephen O’Brien MP was also on hand to give the view from the other side of the fence.

Former Shell economist and now Shadow Chancellor for the Liberal Democrats, Dr Vincent Cable MP, rounded up the all-party gathering at the Blackpool Hilton Hotel.

A first for the conference was the national small business surgery held by the Small Business Minister, Mr Nigel Griffiths MP.

Other speakers included Trevor Phillips, Chairman of the Commission for Racial Equality, and Information Commissioner Richard Thomas.

The conference marked the thirtieth anniversary of the FSB and is accompanied by a major small business exhibition led by the main conference supporter, the Co-operative Bank.
